Yancey’s extensive training and talent has now catapulted him to the position of Head Stylist for the Daytime Emmy® Award winning talk show, The View. Yancey tailors the delicate tresses of Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. Yancey has already placed his indelible stamp on the hosts while also lending his expertise to guests on the show such as grooming President Barack Obama, Rosario Dawson, Kenny Rogers, Jason Mraz, Stacey Dash, Dancing with the Stars 2012 Finalists and more.
Since 1997, Yancey has been trained by some of the leaders in the hair industry such as Paul Mitchell, Farouk and Aveda, while also specializing in hair replacement. He has also been mentored by industry greats such as Andrea Cheese, Barry Fletcher, Daniel Green, Eric Von Lockhart, Mary Swann and Olive Benson.
Edwards’ résumé of work with high-profile campaigns, publications and events include MTV, Bravo, BET, The Stellar Awards, Tony Awards, Sherri Shepherd’s wig line campaign and 2013 book cover, IMAN Cosmetics, Essence, Vogue, Black Enterprise, Vibe, Leco Harrell, and the New York Jets.
His list of celebrity clients is no less impressive, with names such as Prince, Roberta Flack, Faith Evans, Shirley Caesar, T.D. Jakes, April Woodard, Lalah Hathaway, Dee Marshall, Toccara Jones, Naturi Naughton and Liris Crosse have all turned to the man with the golden touch.
As if all of the above was not enough, Yancey was named the platform artist for RED flatirons, which are sold in fine beauty stores nationwide. As a successful entrepreneur he has been in business as lead stylist and owner of Shear Insanity Hair Salon for over a decade and is the founder of The Blackout Awards, a premier awards ceremony that honors several top celebrity fashion stylists, hair stylists, makeup artists and photographers. Yancey continues to travel the country teaching other stylists and cosmetology students at all major hair show arenas and beyond his signature weaving and cutting techniques.
While Yancey’s work has appeared on several high fashion hair magazine covers around the world in addition to The View he has also styled Sherri Shepherd for 61 episodes of The Newlywed Game as her exclusive hair stylist. While still remaining humble by making home visits for the sick and elderly Edwards resides in East Orange, NJ and has proven that the story to his life has only begun being written.
